[Normalities]

I think this video was a lot better than a lot of stuff on here. I was entertained handy enough and I got some chuckles. It had more than one idea, it had some characters, it wasn't just a bunch of pop references, it wasn't boring, and it didn't over-egg every gag. It skipped from the next bit to the next bit and it wasn't jarring at all, you kind of just went with it. So kudos.

I think it could've been really good if it was just tightened up a bit, some of the jokes were a little mistimed, and one or two of them would've been better if they'd been done in a more throwaway style. The characters could've been a tad more developed. But I look forward to seeing more stuff from you because you have some ideas, a style and a bit of originality.

First of all; thank you so much, it means a lot to me what you're saying. I, too, feel like a lot of the stuff on NG and YT in general is just a bunch of unoriginal Pokemon-parodies and stuff. And that that is why I try to create completely original animations with original plot and characters. It may not be good, but I am making animations to improve my skills.

As you can see, the same idea is behind it: just something completely weird and original. And my style and skills have obviously improved a bunch since Dec. 2012, but I'm still trying to improve.

[The Face Rift]

Clearly rushed out to cash in on the Facebook/Oculus Rift fiasco. Animation is non-existent, only the most superficial observation made, with no insight provided, obvious 'jokes' you could see coming from a mile away executed with no panache or originality.

Not a good video at all I'm afraid.

The ending seems completely incongruous with the rest of the video and the subject matter. I didn't really think it was great anyway, but it was safe enough and light-hearted until the end, and then a really crude joke about sex changes. Don't get me wrong I think that joke could've been really funny as a sort of absurd business or something, in another video. But in this context it comes across as ill-considered, cheap and a bit mean-spirited.

I don't doubt for a second there were good intentions behind this video, but I can see why someone watching it might be offended or upset by the end. There's just no build-up or suggestion that that's coming, it was set for a pretty typical, "okay he's gonna get some really awful make-up" kind of ending.

Hey thanks for the feedback! I think you're right and I never meant any offense by it at all. I made this as a challenge to myself to come up with an idea and make it all in a day, and while I achieved that I feel the end result isn't something I'm entirely proud of in retrospect.

Your reply though is something I needed to hear, as while I've had no doubt the comedy was in bad taste, I never considered how offensive it can seem.

The justification I have for it is that the character in question isn't too smart, and so feels that only women can contribute to the cause and so has to become a woman to do so. In that sense the comedy is making fun of the characters idiocy rather than making fun of sex changes. It turned (not with malicious intent) to the latter with the delivery.

I may take the video down, or just rewrite/make the skit and re release it. But thank you for your response, if anything the whole experience has made me more weary of just throwing up any random rubbish and to really try and be better than this :)

[The classroom]

I was disappointed. It started in an appealing way, a sort of 'Home Movies' vibe, built an atmosphere, had appealing voices and I was hoping it would go for a kind of conversational style of humor. Instead, as with a lot of videos, it built up to a singular joke and then tailed off. The video was in ruins from the 'record scratch' onwards.

There's nothing wrong with the ass-in-face joke but it's too weak a gag to base a whole video on. There could've been ten more jokes in that space of time, woven in with engaging characters and dialogue. Unfortunately, the single joke is not even funny as presented here, because too much attention is drawn to it. The joke works better in a context where other stuff is going on, and it's simply something humorous that's happening. The central concept could work as a series, but it needs actual characters and more laughs. I think you could be more ambitious with it than single gags.

[Game Grumps Animated (#1)]

Bland. Seems like there's a trillion of these game grumps parodies. Obviously a lot of people find them amusing, and that's cool, but personally I think once you remove the context, the jokes simply don't work. It's just banking on people going "oh hah, I remember that!" to make it seem funny. Pretty sure you could do better than this. Good luck with future work.

Rubbish. It's explained in the anime, so the whole of the premise of this parody is nonsensical. And tbh, even if the premise was valid it still would be a fairly uninspired and bland video. I think you could've done a lot better to be honest. The best parody videos tend to have some kind of insight, something that makes you go 'oh yeah!', where as the weaker ones tend to make superficial observations and blow them out of proportion. I hope this review is taken in the spirit of self-improvement. Good luck with your future work.

[Spider-Man's Day Off]

Fairly bland parody it has to be said. I think something more imaginative could've been done with the whole idea of what Spiderman does when he's not solving crimes.
